Sometimes the link to this page gets shared out on social media and we get an influx of votes outside or our member list. While we sincerely appreciate the exposure, we work hard to ensure our collective donations reflect the selections of our donating members and hand-scrubbing the voting list takes a lot of extra time on our end. Island Roots
Housing

IF SELECTED:

Island Roots Housing is focused on creating affordable housing for people who live and work in Island County. Donations help them sustain their mission by fueling programs, driving future projects, and powering advocacy efforts. Our collective donation would help them complete Generation's Place, a project aimed at completing Langley’s first new affordable apartments in over 35 years.

ABOUT:

Island Roots Housing envisions an engaged community network that provides the resources necessary to create varied housing choices for a diverse population.

Their purpose is to create housing affordable to people who live and work in Island County, with an initial focus on workforce rental housing. Through partnerships and coalitions, they work toward the development and long term management of housing. They aim to broaden the community’s understanding of the needs and opportunities for this work.

Soroptimist International of Coupeville

IF SELECTED:

Soroptimist International of Coupeville is part of a larger global volunteer organization whose mission is to provide women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment, especially those facing significant obstacles. Years of experience has proven that education is the key to unlocking economic empowerment of the world’s women and girls. When women and girls are educated, they have opportunity, choice and power to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families.

Our donation could make a significant difference through support of two key programs:

Live Your Dream Award:

This program provides financial assistance to women who are heads of households and seeking education. With additional funding, the award amount could be increased, and more women could be helped. Continued assistance during their education timeline could also be offered, creating a lasting impact on their lives and their families.

Dream It, Be It Career Workshop:

This one-day workshop for high school girls provides tools to define their education and career goals. With more resources, the program could reach more girls and build ongoing modules to support them beyond the one-day format. This would help put them on a path to a brighter future.

ABOUT:

We are a diverse group of women committed to improving the lives of women and girls in Coupeville and throughout the world.  We reach our goals by volunteering, mentoring, and fundraising. Each activity seeks to fulfill our mission that strives to provide women and girls with access to the education they need. Soroptimist International of Coupeville is part of a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

South Whidbey
Historical Society

South Whidbey Historical Society Logo

IF SELECTED:

The South Whidbey Historical Society collects, preserves, and presents information, stories, and artifacts representing the diverse history of South Whidbey Island. If selected, our donation would support two key efforts.

Increasing Museum Visitor Hours:
The need for quality educational experiences is rising. Our donation would help increase museum hours of operation so that visitors would have greater access to this experience. Normally closed for a significant portion of the year and with limited hours of operation through the summer, these funds could help keep the museum open year-round.

Expanding Educational Outreach:
This donation would help expand education outreach with the creation of history boxes - portable education kits that provide an interactive experience for kids. These boxes could be borrowed by public, private, or homeschooling educators to teach kids about the history of Whidbey Island. Additional offerings include free history curriculums that correspond with the historical eras of South Whidbey and increasing the number of classroom and group tours of the museum.
