Good Cheer
ABOUT:
We’re on a mission to create a hunger-free Whidbey Island! What makes our island so special is the incredible people who call it home. As the cost of living rises, Good Cheer is here to make sure our neighbors can stay rooted and thriving. With nourishing food and essential items, we’re helping to keep our community strong, connected, and full of possibility. And true to our name, we do it all with Good Cheer: because together, we can build a hunger-free community.
Good Cheer has been spreading joy on Whidbey Island since 1962, when we started as a holiday toy drive. From there, our Langley thrift store was born. It’s still going strong today, along with a second store in Clinton, providing affordable treasures, household essentials, and vital funding for our mission. In 1969, we became an official 501(c)3 nonprofit, and ever since, we’ve kept evolving to meet the needs of our neighbors.
Today, Good Cheer is so much more than a thrift store. Our grocery-style Food Pantry empowers people in choosing what works best for their families, our Farm grows fresh produce year-round, and our Community Connections program links folks to housing, healthcare, and other vital services. Powered by an amazing community, we live by two simple truths: sometimes we all need a little help, and everyone has something wonderful to contribute.
Good Cheer is here for everyone: families, seniors, students, artists, farmers, veterans, and everyone else across Whidbey Island. Whether someone is navigating long-term challenges or just needs a little extra support between paychecks, our doors are always open with kindness, dignity, and plenty of Good Cheer.
Oasis for Animals
ABOUT:
The primary purpose of Oasis for Animals is to rescue animals in need. Since we do not have a shelter facility, Oasis relies on a network of volunteer foster homes to provide care for these rescued animals. Every animal is spayed or neutered, may be tested for contagious illness, vaccinated and treated for any medical condition before it is adopted into a permanent, loving home.
Oasis for Animals is able to receive animals from rescue groups, overburdened shelters, or area veterinarians. When possible, we receive animals surrendered from people and also feral kittens that we tame and adopt out. Our primary focus is on rescuing animals about to be euthanized at shelters. Any stray animals must be taken to your local animal shelter. This will enable the animal to possibly be reunited with its owner. By networking with other shelters and rescue groups, Oasis is able to successfully assist individuals in placing and adopting animals.
Organic Farm School
ABOUT:
At the Organic Farm School, we support community food security by training farmers and by encouraging community participation in our local and regional food system. To that end:
-
We provide career development in managing small to medium-sized farms that are ecologically, economically and socially sustainable, as well as job placement.
-
We inspire consumers to buy and prepare locally produced food in support of our local food system.
-
We organize community engagement through workshops, classes and events to explore current farming initiatives to produce food using ecologically and economically sound practices.
Through our mission, we pledge to cultivate farmers, food, and community while working towards a resilient food system for our future.
